New Deadline to File a Claim Against PG&E is October 21st

If you were affected by the November 2018 Camp Fire in Butte County, it’s important to know that to receive compensation for your losses you must file a claim in bankruptcy court. Even more important, though, is knowing the deadlines to ensure you file your claim in a timely manner.

In many situations involving personal injury law and litigation, claimants have many years to pursue compensation. However, because PG&E filed for bankruptcy protection, those time limits are much shorter.

When Is the New Deadline?

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has been widely considered at fault for the Camp Fire and soon after the incident, filed for bankruptcy protection. This is a move that impacted the deadline for individuals to file a claim to pursue compensation.

Now, those who need to file a claim must do so by October 21. This means it will be less than one year from the date of one of the deadliest wildfires in the state’s history before individuals are no longer able to file a claim for compensation.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you have not yet filed your claim against PG&E, now is the time to do so. You have just less than a month before the deadline passes and if you miss your opportunity, there may not be an opportunity for you to seek legal recourse for your losses.

The new deadline was set forth by the Bankruptcy Court as part of the company’s filing. This was done despite many claimants hoping to get a deadline set for January 2020 so there would be more time to reach potential claimants and ensure they were aware of their rights.

Now, you must hurry. Our Sacramento personal injury attorneys are here to help you understand your rights and pursue justice on your behalf. Whether you lost your home, suffered serious injury, or lost a loved one due to the Camp Fire, you have rights.
