As of November 12, 2019, all those affected by the Northern California fires, including the Camp Fire, will be able to file claims for fire damage in the PG&E bankruptcy case until December 31, 2019. This extension will help all those who experienced property damage, injuries, or other losses during the California fires and ensure that they have the opportunity to submit a claim for compensation. If victims fail to file a claim, they will receive no recovery through the claims process.
All potential claimants who have yet to file any fire-related claims for losses that occurred before January 29, 2019 can do so before the newly-extended deadline. The deadline for filing claims, also known as the Bar Date, was previously set for October 21, but was recently extended to December 31 at 5:00 p.m.
A Bankruptcy Court approved the new deadline as part of the PG&E and Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Due to the extensive destruction in the Camp Fire and other Northern California fires, PG&E could be liable for extensive damages.
